Why it's worthy
Brewery D'Achouffe began in the late 1970s, in the middle of the Vallée des Fées (the Valley of the Fairies) in Belgium, when two brothers-in-law, decided to create their own beer in a garage. Still family-owned it is now one of Belgium's favourite artisan breweries with its own fan club.
What you'll taste
Light noble-hop like aromas in the nose with a typical spicy accent of Chouffe beers. A light-medium fruity body in which a soft bitterness emerges. Refreshing and thirst-quenching.
The perfect pairing
Serve chilled. Combines well with greens like fennel, broccoli, asparagus, coriander and chives. Also works great with fish and white meats.
The pleasant surprise
Chouffe doesn't mean anything. Initially someone suggested to the founders of d'Achouffe Brewery - “You should call your beer Oumpf!” whilst swallowing a mouthful of off. “Oumpf? ” retorted the founders. But with a clear mouth for the first time came out with the word “Chouffe”. It meant absolutely nothing, but they liked it. So they launched a beer with a word that had no meaning – but was easy to pronounce.
